Over the past two decades, the Asthma and Allergy Center of Chicago has distinguished itself as a leading site in Chicago conducting community-based participatory research. The Center attracts patients from among all socioeconomic and racial communities within the Chicago metropolitan region. The Asthma and Allergy Center of Chicago conducts clinical research because we believe that it is not enough for physicians just to treat individual medical problems. The Center provides both private patient and research related clinical care. We are not a research-only facility (a "research factory") that generates revenue by running clinical trials outside our area of medical expertise or by attracting patients solely for research participation. We are a clinical care facility that conducts clinical research as part of our mission of providing clinical care. The Center conducts research only in its areas of proven expertise: respiratory disease (asthma, COPD, allergic disease). As policy, other than direct research grant support, the Center has no other financial relationships with pharmaceutical companies (see Code of Conduct).Director Edward E.
